UK Treasury Chair Orders Tax Report on Man City’s £900M Breach

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is facing backlash from fellow politicians over the state's management of the financial misconduct investigation into Manchester City. The tension escalated on Thursday when the chair of the Treasury Committee demanded that Britain's tax authority provide a report on the measures it took in response to the club's systemic rule violations.

The parliamentary interest follows an independent commission's ruling that the Abu Dhabi-owned club was guilty of 114 of 115 charges of breaching Premier League rules between 2009 and 2018. The panel found that City used 'sham' contracts to artificially inflate revenue by more than £900M, leaving the team vulnerable to points deductions or expulsion. The club intends to appeal, reportedly arguing that disputed sponsorship funds were payments from a government rather than the owners, though the commission had already rejected that evidence.
