The investment firm Vy Capital now owns roughly 3.4% of SpaceX, making it a top five shareholder in the private company. This position is worth $40 billion and exceeds the disclosed stakes of venture firms Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz. Vy first invested in 2016 when SpaceX was valued at about $15 billion and manages its portfolio with a team of four investment staff.
The firm's assets under management grew from $27 billion at the end of last year to $50 billion in June in a recent investor letter. Vy has returned $4.6 billion to investors since 2014 with a 41% gross internal rate of return. The firm also holds interests in Neuralink and The Boring Company, committed $700 million to the acquisition of Twitter, and predicts SpaceX will reach a $10 trillion valuation within seven years.
