The newest flagship silicon from MediaTek debuts with a ground-up redesign alongside TSMC to support agentic AI. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is the company's first mobile processor built on a 2 nanometer process, whereas the companion Dimensity 9600 for standard models utilizes a 3 nanometer process. Both chips target the premium smartphone segment to boost overall device performance.

The 9600 Pro's neural processing unit handles more generative AI work on device and processes prompts 51% faster than the previous generation, the company says. This push for premium handsets follows MediaTek's market value surpassing Qualcomm's earlier this year, and the company has a custom AI accelerator for a US cloud provider entering mass production in the fourth quarter. Last month, the firm raised $3.9 billion in a convertible sale with a $3.5 billion investment from Nvidia and participation from Google.
