1 Google Battles EU Order to Grant Rivals 11 Android FeaturesGOOGLPVT:OPAI π» Tech Sep 29, 1:00 AM EDT 9/8
Google must provide anonymized search ranking and click data to rivals by November under two European Union orders that the company is now legally challenging. The mandates would force the tech giant to grant firms such as OpenAI access to 11 Android features currently reserved for its Gemini AI, alongside detailed search query and view data, to foster competition in the AI and search markets.
The company argues these requirements jeopardize Android security and risk exposing private search histories, a claim the EU disputes by stating that personal account data will not be shared. While the search dataset is due this autumn, the changes to Android 18 must be implemented by Aug 1, 2027. Rival search engine DuckDuckGo stated that the appeal is merely a tactic to buy Google more time.
