SpaceX confirmed Starship splashed down on target in the Pacific Ocean, completing the rocket's first orbital flight. The ship performed a flip maneuver before splashdown, and SpaceX congratulated the team on the first orbital flight of Starship.

The flight ended earlier than planned. SpaceX deorbited the ship after 3 hours in orbit, cutting short a mission that was expected to last nearly 10 hours and complete about six trips around Earth. The mission briefly looked at risk when an engine failed during ascent, sending SpaceX shares to a premarket low, before the company proceeded with an insertion burn from a single Raptor engine into a roughly 275 km orbit and the stock recovered.

All 26 Starlink V3 satellites deployed from the ship and made contact, the program's first revenue-generating payload. Starship reached orbit 18 years to the day after Falcon 1, SpaceX's first rocket to orbit, launched on Sept 28, 2008, and after development costs that exceeded $15 billion per the company's S-1 filing.
