The Nasdaq Composite climbed 397.63 points to 26,376.05 at the market open on Sept. 17. The S&P 500 gained 88.67 points, or 1.17%, to 7,640.48 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 413.71 points, or 0.80%, to 51,875.61. This recovery occurred after a selloff triggered by the Federal Reserve's first interest rate increase since July 2023.
Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 futures reached 1.5% and 1% respectively in premarket trading. Dip buyers pushed indices higher following a crash on Sept. 16, which was sparked by a unanimous 12-0 vote to raise rates by 25 basis points to a target range of 3.75% to 4.00%.
