Nondefense capital equipment orders excluding aircraft rose 1.6% in the most recent data release, compared to a 0.6% growth forecast. This demand helped keep total US durable goods orders flat for August, while the consensus had predicted a decline of 0.3%. Durable goods orders excluding transportation grew 0.3%, which was below the 0.6% projection.

Shipments of nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft increased 0.6%, missing the 0.8% expectation and slowing from a 1.2% rise in the previous month. The flat reading for August represents a deceleration from the 1.1% gain reported previously, which was subsequently revised to 0.9%.
