The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 379.93 points, or 0.73%, to 51,448.69 at the start of trading on September 28. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 134.78 points, or 0.50%, to 26,933.94, and the S&P 500 declined 36.38 points, or 0.47%, to 7,707.03. Approximately $380 billion in market value was wiped out from US stocks during the opening session.

Selling pressure intensified among technology shares as losses for the Nasdaq-100 widened to more than 1% by 14:12 UTC. During that same period, the S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the Dow Jones losses moderated to 0.4% from its initial open.
