Senator Josh Hawley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, sent a letter to the CEO of Flock Safety requesting data on its surveillance operations. The probe targets the company's use of artificial intelligence to pool vehicle records from more than 120,000 cameras across 49 states into a searchable national database. The network generates more than 20 billion vehicle scans every month, a scale Hawley says exceeds the scope of discrete local law enforcement investigations.

Hawley argued that the system's breadth infringes on the privacy rights of Americans during routine activities such as commuting or visiting a church. The inquiry focuses on the collection of records from citizens who have not committed crimes and asks the CEO to provide information on the data the company is collecting.
