Former Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil has initiated legal proceedings against the university and a dean, claiming a failure to safeguard Palestinian students. The lawsuit alleges the institution practiced institutionalized racism and demonstrated deliberate indifference toward the harassment of pro-Palestinian activists on campus.

The legal filing further states that Columbia retaliated against students who reported misconduct and refused to correct disinformation regarding Khalil. The activist spent 104 days in immigration detention and is currently subject to active deportation proceedings.
