Public sector roles in California are now off limits to federal officers who led immigration sweeps under Donald Trump. The GET THE FEDS OUT Act specifically targets former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents, preventing them from holding roles in state, county, or local law enforcement and administrative positions.

The law applies to all state, county, and city public agencies, effectively blocking former federal recruits from regional law enforcement jobs. This restriction is paired with separate legislation signed by Newsom that bans the use of shock gloves by officers within the state.
