The US Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Missouri to use its 2022 congressional boundaries for the 2026 midterm elections, rejecting a more recent GOP-led redistricting effort. The ruling, which had no noted dissents, prevents the implementation of a 7R-1D map and instead maintains a 6R-2D split that gives Democrats two House seats in the state. This a 2022 map must be used as a matter of state law, overturning orders from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The justices blocked the 2025 map for a third time, citing the risk of changing election rules after absentee voting had already begun. The Court dismissed arguments that it is unconstitutional to switch maps between the August primary and the general election, stating that no legal precedent requires the two to be identical. The decision allows Missouri to continue using the 2022 lines for the November vote.
