Republican Representative Thomas Massie introduced a privileged resolution on the House floor Tuesday to remove Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth from office. The measure contains eight articles accusing Hegseth of violating the War Powers Resolution by conducting hostilities in Iran without congressional authorization. These charges extend to military operations in Yemen and the effort to capture Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

The House is required to take action on the measure because of its privileged status, which could force a vote before the November midterm elections. Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson stated that the entire department is unified behind the Secretary's vision in a response to Reuters. While a Reuters report says the resolution is unlikely to pass the Republican-controlled chamber, the maneuver could prove difficult for fellow GOP lawmakers.
