President Donald Trump announced Friday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from the White House “effective immediately,” accusing them of publishing “FICTION and LIES” about his administration. In a social media post, he also warned: “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”

CNN initially reported no indication that the administration had taken steps to implement the ban. Later Friday, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy reported that a senior White House official said executives at the three outlets were being informed they could not come to the White House campus starting Saturday. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: “I don't want them in my office. I don't want them here.”

White House Correspondents' Association President Jacqui Heinrich defended the outlets, saying they were “being singled out for doing their jobs.” Politico pledged to defend its First Amendment rights and rejected Trump's allegation that an $8 million government subscription arrangement under former President Joe Biden was an illegal effort to keep it operating. “The claims that POLITICO received government subsidies are false and have been thoroughly debunked,” the outlet said.
