U.S. officials have arrested over 150 noncitizens as part of a coordinated effort to identify individuals casting ballots who are not eligible. Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that the Department of Homeland Security is managing more than 1,600 open investigations and reviewing 300,000 records by matching federal immigration data with state voter rolls. The Justice Department recently charged 16 individuals with illegal voting and registration schemes, including a Russian national and several lawful permanent residents.

A top Justice Department official warned senior supervisors that federal prosecutors could be fired if they decline to pursue reported election fraud cases, according to reports from MS Now. Those reports claim the office of the Deputy Attorney General makes the final determination on whether a case goes forward if a local prosecutor declines to act. The recent federal charges include wire fraud, naturalization fraud, and unlawful firearm purchases discovered during the voting investigations.
