Senators Introduce 400 Page Bipartisan Act to Speed Energy Permits

The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 was brought to the Senate floor by a group of four legislators and the White House to streamline federal approvals for large scale infrastructure. This 400 page bill includes overhauled rules for the National Environmental Policy Act that limit judicial review and create new pathways for state led consultations on endangered species. It targets the acceleration of pipelines, power lines, and mining projects while fixing the Rosemont decision to facilitate mineral extraction.

The legislation mandates energy usage reporting for AI and crypto data centers and provides a federal backstop for high voltage transmission lines to integrate renewable energy. Negotiators resolved a brief dispute over five offshore wind projects to finalize the text of the agreement. The introduction occurs as Senate Democrats move to block the GOP led Ratepayer Protection Act, a separate measure that passed the House 417-3 but which Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer termed an ineffectual participation trophy.
