▶

American families are currently earning the highest median household income ever recorded in the United States, President Donald Trump declared in a series of recent economic updates. Trump asserted that the nation is seeing the best employment numbers in history, with more people working than at any other point in the country's past, and described the current financial figures as the best ever.

The Census Bureau recently confirmed that the official U.S. poverty rate has fallen to its lowest level on record, although Yahoo Finance noted the decline does not include older Americans. However, City Journal reported that relative poverty—defined as the population with incomes 40% less than the median—has climbed to an all-time high, creating a divergence between official and relative poverty measures.
