1 US Secures Third Country Deportation Deals With 35 Nations 🇺🇸 US Politics Sep 24, 4:39 PM EDT 15/11
Washington has bused roughly 20,000 migrants to Mexico and flown at least 5,000 others to nations throughout Africa and Central Asia as part of an expanded removal strategy. The government has now signed agreements with 35 countries to accept deportees who hold no citizenship there, bringing the total number of such removals to over 25,000. While administration officials state the priority is the removal of criminals, records indicate the group includes refugees who fled persecution in Iran and Ghana.
An emergency request has been filed with the Supreme Court to revive the policy after a federal court blocked rapid removals for violating migrants' due process rights. The Trump administration is fighting to restore the tool as a central part of its agenda to conduct the largest deportation push in American history.
