Moldovan authorities closed the airspace over the northern and central regions of the country on Sept. 30 after a drone crossed the national border and exploded. The aircraft detonated 40 metres above the ground outside Hîrbovăț, in the Anenii Noi district, causing blast and heat damage to 12 metres of a civilian communications antenna's structure. Police recovered drone fragments, including the propulsion, power supply, and control systems, from a 265 metre radius around the impact site.

The incident occurred during a large-scale overnight attack by Russia on Ukraine, according to Moldova's Ministry of Defense. No casualties were reported, and the antenna's communications services remained operational despite the damage. Authorities are currently monitoring reports of a second drone circling the country and investigating whether the first aircraft was heading toward the Romanian border.
