Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Yahya Saree stated that his forces destroyed a Saudi reconnaissance aircraft over the Al-Mokha airspace in the Taiz province on September 23. The Houthi movement identified the target as a Wing Loong II armed reconnaissance drone and asserted that the aircraft was conducting "hostile operations" at the time it was intercepted.

Saudi Arabia has not publicly confirmed the loss of the aircraft. The report of the shootdown specifically identifies the drone as a model used for armed surveillance operating over the airspace of the Al-Mokha region.
