IRGC Navy Hits Togo Tanker Trend and Reduces Hormuz Traffic to 4 Ships

Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy launched four drones and at least one missile at the Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night. The strike caused a fire that brought the vessel to a halt, with the IRGC claiming the ship attempted an "illegal passage" through the strategic waterway. Iranian state media reports the force warned that any other unauthorized vessels would face destruction.

Commodity ship traffic through the strait dropped to 4 vessels on Thursday compared to a 10 day average of about 16. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported a security incident 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, though it stated the crew remained safe. The IRGC Navy alleged the tanker's movements were the result of "incitement and deception" by the US military.
