President Vladimir Putin is prepared to sacrifice up to 1.2 million Russian military personnel in the war against Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that Russian forces now lose more than 40,000 soldiers every month to death or serious injury, noting that the nation is heading toward a new record in overall personnel losses.

Rutte also described the Russian economy as not being in a good place due to the costs of the aggression. He called the monthly casualty figures staggering and stated they demonstrate a president willing to sacrifice his own people in an unprovoked conflict.
