The Royal Air Force used a ground-based electronic warfare system to blind adversary satellites tracking sensitive military movements, according to a BBC report. This capability has been used over the past year to deter hostile actors and prevent the monitoring of nuclear-armed submarines and special forces operations. The Ministry of Defence is now forming a Space Effects Squadron to expand the disruption, degradation and denial of threats in orbit.

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting stated that the loss of GPS alone would cost the UK economy £1.4 billion a day due to dependencies in banking and energy. The development follows reports that Russia attempted to jam UK satellites weekly last year and used 5 satellites to conduct dangerous manoeuvres near Finnish commercial spacecraft in May. Air Chief Marshal Sir Harv Smyth warned of "unprecedented threats" as the U.S. recently confirmed it deployed a space-based weapon.
