A fire broke out in the foundry shop of the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant following an overnight strike by Ukrainian forces on Sept. 26, 2026. The operation, conducted by the SBU and the Ukrainian Navy, damaged equipment in five production buildings at the facility, which is a primary supplier of components for Russian precision weapons. Ukraine used Neptune anti-ship missiles and Ruta, Palanytsia, and Bars drone missiles to carry out the attack.

The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the strike in the Rostov region and reported a separate simultaneous hit on the Ilsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai. Ukrainian officials stated that the attacks were an exercise of the nation's inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
