Yemen’s Houthis said they fired dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at Aramco oil facilities in the Saudi Red Sea port of Yanbu and ballistic missiles at an air base in Khamis Mushait. Military spokesman Yahya Saree announced the attacks on Sept. 16, with the group describing them as retaliation for more than 450 Saudi airstrikes that week. Saudi Arabia had not confirmed either attack, and the claimed damage remained unconfirmed.

The announcement followed missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif on Sept. 14 that injured 13 civilians and damaged seven homes and two vehicles, the Saudi-led coalition said. The Houthis also claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 over Yemen’s Marib governorate with a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile. Houthi broadcaster Al Masirah released footage purportedly showing the shootdown; Saudi officials had not commented.

The Saudi-led coalition separately said it intercepted a Houthi drone south of Mecca before it entered restricted airspace, accusing the group of targeting the holy city. The Houthis denied that accusation, calling it a “worn-out lie.” Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attempted attack and urged restraint, saying: “I once again call upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to step back from the brink of further escalation.”
