At least two projectiles fired from southern Iran on Sept 22 struck the waters of the Strait of Hormuz near Qeshm Island. IRNA reported the sound of explosions coming from the sea, while an additional blast was heard near Bandar Kong in Hormozgan Province. A third anti-ship cruise missile attack occurred later that day targeting commercial vessels, though no damage to land was recorded near the impact sites.

The strikes follow a Sept 21 incident where an oil tanker was hit by an unknown projectile, injuring two crew members. UK Maritime Trade Operations also reported an LPG tanker was hit by debris during an outbound transit that day. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard warned it may expand the conflict and change its weapons and tactics if the U.S. escalates tensions in the region.
