The Defense Department's public registry of casualties from the conflict with Iran now includes an additional 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines. This update brings the total number of wounded U.S. service members to 861, or 880 including fatalities, though the Pentagon has provided no explanation regarding when or how the injuries occurred. The Navy stated that the sailors have already returned to duty, but no recent attacks on U.S. forces have been publicly disclosed to account for the personnel on the list.

The registry update follows a shift by the Trump administration to log more than half of all casualties under "Overseas Operations" rather than "Operation Epic Fury" after a July ceasefire collapsed. While Vice President Vance stated on September 3 that there is no active shooting and other officials deny the conflict is a war, five military deaths remain missing from the casualty database. The Pentagon has not held a news briefing since May 5.
