Witnesses and news correspondents in Kyiv reported loud explosions shaking the city on Monday night as Russia launched a wave of ballistic missiles against the capital. This escalation followed a day of wide-ranging drone attacks targeting residential buildings, data centers and gas stations throughout the city. The night-time strikes mark a shift in weaponry from the jet-powered drones utilized during the daytime assaults.

Earlier on Monday, a direct drone strike on the National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv killed one person and injured six, including three children. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that strikes across Ukraine killed at least 9 people and wounded more than 80. The academy has been used for research on unmanned aerial vehicles and satellite systems since 2014, while other targets included the Dobrobut private medical center and the residence of political scientist Volodymyr Horbulin, who was among the wounded.
