Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that Moscow would not pause its invasion during any peace negotiations with Ukraine. He accused Europe of seeking a ceasefire only to give Kyiv time to replenish its military arsenals.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reiterated that Kyiv had agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in March 2025. “We call on Russia to finally do the same as a necessary step towards meaningful diplomacy,” he said. A coalition of 51 UN nations also urged Russia to accept a ceasefire and demanded the return of all deported Ukrainian civilians and children.

The statements followed President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly in New York. Zelensky offered to halt attacks on Russian energy sites if Moscow stopped targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including electricity, heating and water supplies. He said Washington would convey the proposal to Russia.
