▶Saudi Arabia said its air defenses destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh before dawn Saturday and thwarted attacks on civilian sites in Bish, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu. Authorities reported no casualties. The missile attack was the first to target the Saudi capital since fighting resumed in Yemen. Saudi Civil Defense issued two waves of alerts for Riyadh and al-Kharj overnight before declaring the danger had passed.
An Aramco fuel tank near Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport caught fire Saturday, and the airport experienced flight cancellations and delays. Witnesses reported explosions, flames and black smoke. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group targeted “sensitive and important” sites in Riyadh with missiles and drones, without specifically identifying the airport. He also claimed an attack on Aramco facilities in Yanbu, home to a major Red Sea oil export terminal, and said both operations caused large fires.
The US warned that the conflict could “escalate rapidly,” issuing alerts to Americans in nine Middle Eastern countries about possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions. It urged Americans outside the region to seriously reconsider travel there. President Donald Trump reviewed options for strikes on Yemen at Camp David, CNN reported. Qatar and Yemen’s internationally recognized government condemned the attacks, with Qatar calling Sunday for an immediate halt.
