Ukrainian drones set fire to Gazprom Neft’s Moscow refinery on Sept. 20, damaging a fuel supplier with about 245,000 BPD of processing capacity. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it downed 1,110 drones overnight across 19 Russian regions and Crimea, its highest reported overnight total this year, exceeding August’s 822. Russian authorities reported at least two deaths and 20 injuries in the wider Moscow region.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed damage at the refinery. Ukraine’s General Staff said the strike damaged three processing units, while President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed strikes on an oil industry facility and a logistics site in the Moscow region. The attack coincided with the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Residential buildings were also hit, about 400 people were evacuated from an apartment building in Ramenskoye, and flight restrictions disrupted Moscow airports.

Ukrainian drones also struck Ufa on Sept. 21, with residents reporting explosions near its industrial area and oil refinery, OSINTtechnical reported. AMK Mapping identified the target as the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refinery, more than 1,300 km from Ukraine’s border, and reported a large fire after the strikes.
