Ukrainian forces in the Lyman direction utilized shaping operations and intermediate-range strikes to degrade Russian electronic warfare capabilities during Operation Vivaldi. The offensive by the 3rd Army Corps disrupted Moscow's attempt to encircle the "Fortress Belt" and resulted in Russia losing approximately 240 square kilometers of territory. Ukrainian troops cleared 75 square kilometers of land and disrupted more than 20,000 Russian UAV missions using an integrated electronic protection system.

The US House of Representatives passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act on Sept. 16, authorizing tariffs of up to 100% on the five largest importers of Russian oil and natural gas. Russia launched 157 drones and 10 Banderol/Dan-T loitering munitions at Ukraine overnight, while Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated drones may be entering NATO airspace to punish countries supporting Ukraine.
