Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly in New York. Ukraine is ready to stop energy strikes if Russia reciprocates, Zelensky said. Washington agreed to convey Kyiv’s proposal to Moscow.

Zelensky said Trump did not ask Ukraine to halt energy strikes unilaterally. The Financial Times previously reported that Trump pressed him in a Sunday call to stop attacks on Russian refineries, citing concerns about a global diesel shortage and rising prices. US diesel prices reached a record $6.51 a gallon, according to AAA. At Tuesday’s meeting, Trump said the refinery attacks had hit Russia hard and were affecting diesel prices.

Zelensky also requested a winter package of Patriot missiles and said US and Ukrainian teams were working to launch Patriot interceptor production in Ukraine, which requires licenses. He said he hoped to end the war before winter with US support and remained ready for talks with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I want to end this war, but Putin isn't ready for that,” Zelensky said.
