A slow-moving Category 1 hurricane is forecast to dump between 15 and 35 inches of rain on Hawaii's Big Island through the weekend. The National Hurricane Center warns that this rainfall will create risks of mudslides and catastrophic, life-threatening flash flooding across the island's largest landmass.

The storm arrives only five weeks after Hurricane Lala caused significant flooding in the region. While forecasts suggest Hurricane Nolo may not deliver hurricane-force winds as it skirts the coast, it will pass over the island before shifting westward back into the Pacific.
