1 NEWIran Executes Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi After UN Warning Over 30 Deaths 🌍 World Oct 3, 2:35 AM EDT 4/4
Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi was put to death Saturday following a trial over his actions during protests in Shahrekord on January 8. The state’s Mizan news agency reported that the judiciary convicted Kheirabadi of moharebeh, or enmity against God, for allegedly firing at security forces, as well as assembly and collusion against national security. A Supreme Court appeal upheld the death sentence after authorities cited seized weapons, witness statements, and confessions to support the arrest, which occurred two days after the shooting.
A joint statement by 46 countries at the UN Human Rights Council this week criticized the execution of more than 30 protesters since the January crackdown. The coalition called for an immediate halt to all executions, citing reports of fair-trial violations, the use of torture, and forced confessions to obtain evidence from detainees.
