A tropical cyclone intensified on Sept. 21, bringing risks of mudslides and heavy rain to the Pacific region of Mexico. Tropical Storm Polo reached maximum sustained winds of 80 mph while positioned in the ocean as it transitioned into a hurricane.

The strengthening system threatens major flooding and mudslides in the area. The storm previously operated as a tropical storm before its recent escalation in intensity off the coast.
