At least 1 person died from electrocution while wading through floodwaters in the Thai capital as nearly two days of torrential rain overwhelmed the city's canal system. Municipal authorities designated all 50 of Bangkok's districts as disaster zones after nearly 300mm of rain fell over a 48 hour period, forcing water into homes and businesses and submerging main roads.

City officials issued red alerts for the worst affected areas and advised residents to remain indoors as more rain is forecast. The flooding has paralyzed public transport and caused severe traffic disruptions across the metropolis, with water levels continuing to rise.
