Officials across the Pacific shoreline closed ports and suspended classes on Wednesday as heavy rainfall and dangerous surf struck the region. Hurricane Polo is the 3rd Category 5 storm observed in the Pacific Ocean this season and is among the most powerful cyclones to hit the area in decades.

The National Hurricane Center described the storm as extremely dangerous as it moves along the southwestern coast of Mexico. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as the system continues to skirt the western shoreline, bringing a high risk of flooding and mudslides.
