Flydubai suspended flights to and from Israel while authorities investigate the cockpit attack aboard flight FZ1073, saying the temporary halt will allow investigators to establish the facts. The airline will review the suspension as more information becomes available. Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev had requested a halt to its Israel services.

Israeli investigators are examining whether the Omani co-pilot intended to seize control over Jordan and crash the aircraft inside Israel, Channel 12 reported, describing the assessment as preliminary. The broadcaster said Israel currently has no indication that Iran or another organized entity directed the attacker. Flydubai has said the reasons and motives remain unknown.

The Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after the co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and tried to crash the aircraft. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu credited Indian Captain Smit Machchhar with opening the cockpit door despite his injuries, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the attacker and saving 174 lives. Saudi authorities arrested the suspect, Netanyahu said. The passengers subsequently reached Israel on a replacement flight, while India’s embassy said Machchhar was reported to be in stable condition in hospital.
