A rail fragment discovered on the tracks led French investigators to probe deliberate interference in a crash in northwest France on Sept. 11. A regional TER train traveling from Rouen to Caen collided with an unidentified metal object near Cléon, causing one carriage to overturn and four others to derail. The accident injured 44 people, including one woman who was transported to a hospital by helicopter for grave injuries.

About 180 passengers were on board the train when the derailment occurred. Police sources told AFP on Saturday that the incident is being treated as a suspected act of sabotage, and officials are now examining the debris recovered from the rail line to determine if it was intentionally placed.
