The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has delayed protests calling for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to evaluate the government's willingness to maintain a blockade of the capital. To prevent the mobilization originally planned for September 27, authorities deployed 35,000 extra security personnel and placed shipping containers across major highways to seal off Islamabad. The security surge has included the detention of hundreds of PTI activists and officials from the party's provincial ministries.

Police arrested three of Khan's sisters, including Aleema Khan, who was placed under a 30 day public order detention. The Punjab Interior Department also requested that the federal government jam 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile and internet connectivity in Rawalpindi starting September 27 to limit coordination among supporters. Khan has been in prison since 2023.
