PAM Wins Most Seats in Morocco's Lowest Turnout Election in 19 Years
🌍 World Sep 24, 10:20 AM EDT 7/6
The Authenticity and Modernity Party now directs the formation of Morocco's next government after securing 97 of 395 parliamentary seats. Preliminary results indicate the liberal-centrist PAM took the top spot, followed by the RNI and Istiqlal parties. Voter participation fell to 38%, the lowest turnout in 19 years.
The Islamist Justice and Development Party staged a rebound, increasing its seat count to 54 from 13 in 2021. Despite the legislative shift, King Mohammed VI retains sweeping authority over foreign policy, defense and other key portfolios. The election results were confirmed as provisional by several news outlets on September 24.
