The pilot of a US Air Force jet is receiving medical treatment after ejecting from an F-16 that went down in western Germany on Tuesday. The aircraft crashed at Spangdahlem Air Base at approximately 2:30 p.m. following a flight exercise that included 4 planes. Emergency responders attended to the pilot after he safely left the cockpit before the jet hit the ground.

It remains unclear if the aircraft was stationed at the base or was one of several visiting jets that departed Tuesday morning for CENTCOM. Regional broadcaster SWR reported that the crash occurred near the runway and took place in the Bitburg-Prüm district, where a squadron of F-16s is based.
