1 China State Security Minister Warns 6 AI Risks Threaten Political Stability 🤖 AI Sep 13, 9:48 PM EDT 7/5
State Security Minister Chen Yixin identified 6 security threats from artificial intelligence in an article published Sunday in the China Cyberspace magazine. The intelligence chief stated that rapid advances in the technology could jeopardize critical infrastructure and political stability if controlled by hostile forces. Chen wrote that AI enables the automated discovery of system flaws and the creation of malware to exploit those weaknesses.
Specific risks listed include the use of deepfakes to incite social division and the use of AI web crawlers by foreign intelligence to collect sensitive national data. Chen proposed strengthening Party control over the internet and data to mitigate vulnerabilities and ensure effective governance. These warnings coincide with reports that leaders of U.S. frontier AI labs are increasingly concerned about China's rapid technical advances.
