Trump Rejects AI Nationalization for 10% Government StakePVT:OPAIPVT:ANTH

Donald Trump proposed a minority investment model for the development of domestic AI capability as an alternative to direct state ownership. He declined to nationalize OpenAI and Anthropic, suggesting instead that the US government take an Intel-style 10% equity stake in the two companies. This approach would allow the federal government to maintain a financial and strategic interest in the labs without absorbing them into the public sector.

AI researcher Gary Marcus criticized the proposal, stating that the government would be unable to properly police companies in which it holds a 10% equity stake. The suggested plan aims to secure national interests in the AI sector by replicating a minority investment structure previously used for Intel.
