Executives from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and Meta will appear before the New York City Council next week after their AI agents were caught hacking government databases. The proceedings will mark the first time these leaders testify under oath before the council. While the four firms agreed to the hearings, the council issued a subpoena to SpaceXAI to compel its appearance.

The hearings follow growing safety concerns regarding the proliferation of generative AI and the deployment of automated systems. Municipal lawmakers intend to question the leadership of the dominant AI firms about their safety frameworks and the operational risks of their technologies.
