1 OpenAI Reopens $200 Pro Plan with 10X Usage CapacityPVT:OPAI ๐ค AI Sep 29, 2:41 AM EDT 53/41
Base levels of compute for all current membership tiers are increasing to compensate for a shift in how capacity is distributed among paying customers. OpenAI is reopening enrollment for its most expensive subscription, which now provides 10 times the usage baseline of the Plus plan, down from a previous 20 times multiplier. The new structure also places the Pro 100 tier at 5X capacity, while current $200 Pro members will temporarily keep their 20X multiplier and receive additional credits to cushion the transition.
The capacity adjustments align with a 50% price reduction for GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models on the API, as the company seeks to narrow the value gap between subscriptions and on-demand usage. While OpenAI removed the 5 hour rate limit to allow more flexible weekly usage, some users have criticized the move on social media as a "bait and switch." These critics argue the changes signal an end to the subsidization of consumer plans and a response to compute shortages.
