Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority said Al Ruwais, Sinbad and Mersin Prosperity, three tankers owned or chartered by the UAE that were struck in the Strait of Hormuz, were on its latest PGSA noncompliance list. The authority said the vessels had repeatedly attempted to transit the strait over the past two months.
Shipping intelligence firm Marisks identified the three Liberian-flagged oil tankers as the vessels hit by unknown projectiles on Sept. 29. They were traveling through the southern Omani corridor with their tracking transponders switched off. The Joint Maritime Information Center reported that all crews were safe and there was no environmental damage, while damage assessments on two vessels remained ongoing. It rated the regional threat level SEVERE.
Two of the tankers had recently transferred cargo to other ships off Oman, while Sinbad had loaded refined products in Saudi Arabia. Mersin Prosperity transferred 2 million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude to another vessel off Sohar in mid-September, Kpler data showed.
