Saudi Aramco Halts October Crude Allocations to Europe After Pipeline Attack

Saudi Aramco told at least two European refiners they will receive no crude in October after a drone attack shut its East-West pipeline to the Red Sea. The decision applies to all European buyers on term contracts, Bloomberg reported, citing people informed of the decision. Those contracts normally provide monthly supplies, and Europe imported 577,000 barrels a day of Saudi crude before the shutdown.

The October halt follows cancellations of some late-September cargoes and the suspension of crude loadings at Yanbu, Saudi Arabia’s main Red Sea export port. The pipeline provides a route around the Strait of Hormuz. The disruption has triggered replacement buying, while Poland’s Orlen, the biggest oil company in the European Union’s east, is seeking to diversify supplies as deliveries from Saudi Arabia are disrupted.

Saudi Arabia is working to restore roughly half the pipeline’s capacity within days. October supply concerns supported crude prices, though optimism about repairs limited gains. Brent traded around $103.53 a barrel, with WTI near $101.46.
