The United States Navy has shifted its focus toward securing specific transit windows in the Strait of Hormuz to maintain regional energy flows. This strategy is contributing to the rapid drainage of Iranian oil inventories outside of US-controlled waters, which Kpler projections suggest could be exhausted by mid-October, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal. While Iranian crude loadings have plummeted to nearly zero, overall exports from key Middle East producers rose to 12.8 million barrels per day in September.

Saudi Arabia matched its 2025 monthly average by exporting 6 million barrels per day this month, utilizing US-secured shipping lanes along the Omani coast to bypass damaged East-West pipeline infrastructure. Despite the recovery, total regional exports remain roughly 6 million barrels per day below the 18.8 million barrels recorded in February. President Trump indicated that negotiations with Tehran may resume this week, though analysts at FirstSquawk warned that economic pressure could increase the risk of Iranian escalation to break the squeeze.
